Project 1: Self-Promotional Postcards [New idea/mockup]

Initially, my idea was extremely different from what I mocked up below. I was having a hard time putting what I was thinking into illustrations and having them tell the whole story. So, I resorted to showing my idea in more of a narrative timeline format. I really like the solution I came up with. Now I'm having a little harder time making the other three.

I am thinking of emphasizing other aspects of my design process: telling my idea to people (presenting it), leadership as Creative Director, room for growth and change and how I realize this.

Again, I am hoping that these will be going to future employers, other designers who can relate, etc.  I also want this to be a showcase of my personality and a testament of how I think and feel about design, using my sense of humor.

Project 1: Self-Promotional Postcards [preliminary sketches]

I was having an extremely difficult time narrowing my thoughts for this project. It's one thing to describe and embody a client or product, which is still rather difficult, but it's entirely different to summarize who you are as a person and designer.

I have a lot of interests in design. I also have a lot of general interests that affect my design and influence how I discover my ideas. My processes are important to me. I have a lot of quirky things I do that inspire me. I think its important and interesting to other designers and employers how to even start with a project, and how a your mind processes information and comes up with solutions. For me - it's where I am or what I'm doing. I thought that it was very special to me, how I come up with design inspiration, either in the shower, right before I go to bed, people watching, sitting upside down, etc.

I want to show my design style of utilizing lots of bold colors, coupled with white space. I also want to show my employers my sense of humor. With this I will show illustrations of places and tasks that lead me to inspiration, and show them in a humorous way with a snarky comment or caption to make it relevant and engaging.

I also want to use my advertising skills and put a call to action somewhere on the postcard. I want this to be something I would give to someone to remember me by, while be a showcase of my creativity and abilities.

Here are a few sketches showing the possibility of this idea:

My other idea was to use my freckles as a show of my creativity. But the more I think about it, the less I like this idea compared to the one above. I want to show my process instead of a feature of myself. The REALLY rough sketches are below...
